General Worker Learnership Programme
Kathu · Northern Cape · Full-time learnership (12 months) · Demo listing for stakeholder review
In plain language
This programme is for people who want a first step into mining support work. You will be on a team that keeps the site clean, moves materials safely, and follows health and safety rules every day. You do not need experience in a mine already — the learnership includes training, a mentor, and a monthly stipend while you learn. This page is here so you can read everything before you create a profile or apply.
If you are unsure about any word below, ask a family member or visit a help desk — we keep the language simple on purpose.
Requirements
- South African citizen and resident in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district (or able to prove you stay in the area).
- Completed Grade 12 (NSC) or equivalent — bring your statement of results or certificate when asked.
- Age 18–35 at the date applications close (demo rule — live rules may differ).
- Medically fit for surface work and willing to work shifts, including weekends when rostered.
- No criminal record that stops you from entering a mining area — checks will be explained if you are shortlisted.
- Ready to attend induction and safety training in Kathu for two full weeks at the start.
Documents you may need
You might not upload everything on day one. Start with what you have; the system will ask for more only when needed.
- Certified copy of your ID (both sides).
- Grade 12 certificate or latest results.
- Proof of address not older than three months (e.g. municipal bill or affidavit).
- CV — even a simple list of schools and any jobs or volunteering is fine.
- Bank confirmation letter for stipend payment (only once you are selected — we will tell you when).
What happens after you apply
- You get an SMS and email to say we received your application (demo — wire to Laravel later).
- If your papers look complete, you are invited to a short literacy and safety quiz on your phone or at a help centre.
- Shortlisted people attend a face-to-face interview in Kathu; transport support may be available from nearby towns (placeholder).
- We contact referees only if you reach the final list — we tell you before we phone anyone.
- Successful candidates sign a learnership agreement and start on the date given in your offer letter.
